38. This Is A Wave
Notes: I find I keep returning to Emily Roblyn's song after learning it many months ago... I find myself singing it when times are really sweet -- and when they're really hard. It helps me remember I don't need to try to clench the almost painfully beautiful, wonderful times, because they won't last forever no matter how hard I hold -- and it helps me trust that the difficult, heart-aching times will pass. And as I sing, I can feel my voice vibrate in my body, and it brings me into awareness of my own body. Now, I'm no sage or wise woman -- but I know that this kind of embodiment is good for my whole being, and I'm grateful for any song that gets me there! Lots of juicy harmony options, or a lovely melody that rises and falls like the waves.... you sing what feels good in you today.

Hi, Patricia, I love the ebbing and flowing of this song, like I've really become a wave. When Emily talks about becoming the vastness of the ocean it reminds me of an experience I had in a dream when I was 8 years old. I had just read "A Wrinkle in Time" by Madeleine L'Engle (one of my favorite authors) and it opened my mind to a realm of possibilities. In the dream I was in a spaceship traveling to the edge of the universe and as we approached there was a blinding light. Suddenly I was disembodied and melded with the vastness of space, traveling up and up as part of the cosmos. I could see things beginning to take shape and realized as I floated up, that the entire universe was a drop of water under a microscope, and that the room was filled with microscopes focused on drops of water. Then the top of the building opened up and I floated into another sky filled with millions of stars. It was very humbling yet mind-blowing to realize how small we are, but how connected we are--like drops of water in the ocean or the stars in the cosmos. Thank you for bringing this song and the memories filling me up today.
