79. Be Yourself
Song: Be Yourself
Words & Music by Kate Thomas
Words & Music by Kate Thomas
Lyrics
Come in and be yourself,
there's a place for you here, by the fire.
And as our voices rise up ever higher,
come in, come in -- come home.
Come in and be yourself,
there's a place for you here, by the fire.
And as our voices rise up ever higher,
come in, come in -- come home.
Notes: "Be Yourself" was written for 'Body of Sound', a women's group that Kate Thomas leads, for a residential at Laurieston Hall in Scotland which has a lovely open fire. Can you imagine joining with friends around a fire and singing this to each other? And sometimes, I swear, I find myself singing it to just myself (or my many selves???), welcoming all of them around the fire -- the part of me that's anxious, the part that's grouchy, the part that is confident, the part that's flamboyant -- shall I go on? I definitely have enough for a campfire gathering of my own -- but I'll grant you that it's even better if you're gathering with others!

I'm so very sorry to hear that you have covid now in addition to this other mysterious illness. I can hardly believe you are still up to sending out this week's song. Please know that I am holding you in my thoughts and sending healing energy your way. 💜
Deeply appreciated, Stephanie! Fortunately, I had really been pain-free since the Monday before Thanksgiving, and was feeling very close to normal by Sunday after... and then started with covid symptoms Monday morning. So I had a day!!!! And even with the covid being a drain and a drag, it's not as bad as the muscle pain/fatigue thing was. And the time singing and tending to the podcast is such a pleasure for me...
I have always so loved when you’ve used this song as an opening/welcoming song on your pocket songs /juneberry zoom song gatherings. It is so welcoming, the song itself, and how you share it ♥️
Yes, I really love the sense of welcome all around the room that this gives, combined with the full permission to be who we are... and it's a light-hearted song, too... Kate gave us a really good song here.
I was privileged to be around the actual fire at Laurieston when we originally learned this beautiful song from Kate; I always find myself thinking of it when I'm in a room with an open fire 🎶🥰🔥 Lovely to be reminded of all the parts - I look forward to listening to other episodes.
A warm welcome to A Breath of Song to you, Liz! How lucky you were to be by that fire, indeed!!
