Welcome -- I'm delighted that you're interested in being part of sharing songs that help us all find wellness! If I select your song, I'll be following up with a permission request form and so forth.
I believe in great return for great work -- when you participate in A Breath of Song, whether it's allowing me to share your song, or coming on yourself to sing and be interviewed, I will share whatever contact/publicity you'd like to get out there to an audience that's drawn to singing for wellness.
I am moved by how community among songleaders has grown during the pandemic, and I hope to deepen those relationships and our connections with each other through this podcast.
But mostly, I want to plant songs that help people uncover wellness in themselves, each other, and our world.
I'm putting a tip jar on the website. Podcasts are not generally money makers -- they're used more for getting the word out and building audiences. As such, I believe each collaborator will gain right off; I've tried to design it such that people will go back and listen to previous episodes, so your work will continue reaching the hearts of people, and people will find you through the podcast.
After the first year, I'll have a better idea of how the finances work. IF I receive more than the monthly hosting costs (podcast, website, domain, setup), I'll donate 25% to the Jazz Foundation of America, which directly supports jazz, blues, and roots musicians in need. I recognize how much of the music I love has at its core the artistry of unfairly treated Black and indigenous people, no matter who the songwriter is. For the first year, I'll use the remainder to pay Patty & myself for setting this up, publicizing, and creating a trustworthy body of work.
IF (and internet savvy tells me this is unlikely, but it never hurts to dream!), after the first year it becomes clear that there is a reliable stream of income, either from donations or sponsors, I hope to pay songwriter collaborators in dollars as well from that point on. I am committed to sharing financial profits fairly with collaborating artists.
